Dataton's history and capabilities

Our History

Incorporated in 1996, Datatron became the first dedicated bureau in North England, pioneering Document Scanning Services. Over the years, Datatron has grown steadily, securing big and small clients by providing high-quality, reliable service and heavily reinvesting in our team, equipment, and software.

In August 2023, Apogee Corporation Ltd acquired Datatron to further strengthen its Outsourced Document Services scale and capabilities. Our specialised team now comprises of document prep experts, highly trained imaging machine operators, and dedicated quality control analysts. We have expanded our imaging capacity by operating a fleet of high-speed, high-quality Opex and IBML imaging machines. We have developed our image processing software to incorporate machine learning and AI advancements to take our efficiency to the next level.

Our efforts have accumulated, enabling us to process over one million documents per week, cementing ourselves as the largest bureau in the region, and the reason why we have been trusted to build and maintain one of the UK's largest digital patient record archives.

David Popay

Managing Director

David is the founder of Datatron; starting with an inspirational idea back in the early 90’s, he pioneered the capture of digital images for document management services in the North East. David is responsible for all aspects of production and business development, he is continually developing new technology and services to improve business processes.

Rob Grainge

Head of IT

Rob's wealth of knowledge about Datatron's business services, software development and technical infrastructure is second to none. As head of IT, he is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, qualified Canon Information Management Technician, Highly respected and knowledgeable Therefore engineer, Alchemy expert, C# programmer and SQL specialist - Rob can work alongside our client's IT departments and Datatron's sales team to provide qualified business advice to all our clients.

Angela Cooper

Operations and HR Manager

With her finger on the pulse Angela has a 360 degree view of all the projects that run through our operation and is your go to person for progress reports. Whilst also overseeing our quality management systems both roles put Angela on an ideal position to monitor production, quality and delivery.

Elliot Harrison

Presales Consultant for Digital Service

Elliot is the most recent member of the Datatron team, joining us after graduating university with a degree in economics. With a logical approach to design and development Elliot uses his technical development skills to find better ways to communicate our services and messaging to a wider audience.
